By: Laura Trentham
Releasing August 1, 2017
St. Martin’s Press

Blurb:

Love, betrayal, and sweet revenge--life in Cottonbloom is about to get a whole lot hotter . . .

Sutton Mize is known for lavishing attention on the customers who flock to her boutique on the wealthy side of her Mississippi town. So when she finds a lace thong in her fiance's classic cherry-red Camaro, she knows just who she sold it to: her own best friend. In an instant, Sutton's whole world goes up in flames. . .

Wyatt Abbott has harbored a crush on Sutton since he was a young kid from the other side of the tracks. He witnessed Sutton's shocking discovery in the Camaro at his family-owned garage--and it made him angry. What kind of man could take lovely, gorgeous Sutton for granted? But then Sutton comes up with an idea: Why not give her betrothed a taste of his own medicine and pretend that she's got a lover of her own? Wyatt is more than happy to play the hot-and-heavy boyfriend. But what begins as a fictional affair soon develops into something more real, and more passionate, than either Sutton or Wyatt could have imagined. Could it be that true love has been waiting under the hood all along?

Excerpt:
If their first kiss was about revenge and their second about sealing their bargain, this kiss belonged to just the two of them. Gentle, yet devastating, the kiss made him want to stay in limbo with her forever.

Wyatt took her mouth in a series of gentle nips and forays, not wanting to push her too far, too fast. But, Sutton wasn’t playing by the same rules, her hands spearing into his hair and tugging him closer.

Her throaty, breathless sigh made his typical morning erection even more painful. Was she even aware the sexy little noises she was making drove him insane? He pulled back. Her eyes were closed but she’d pulled her bottom lip between her teeth, letting it go slowly, as if she was aware he was watching and wanted to tease him.

She ran her hand down his chest to his arm, the pull she exerted light but commanding, and hooked her leg over his. Her nipples poked at the thin fabric of her tank top. Through it all, her eyes remained closed. He didn’t want to be a faceless fantasy.

“Look at me.” His voice was roughed with sleep and more emotion than he wanted to claim.

Her eyes fluttered open, the shadows cloaking them both a blessing and curse. As much as he attempted to keep his thoughts hidden, he longed for all her secrets.

“Wyatt, please.” Her voice was husky and wanting.
His name on her lips offered satisfaction. If he could only have her for a little while, he not only wanted to leave her with memories she’d never forget, but make sure she understood how desirable and powerful she truly was.

Virtual Tour- The Right Ranger (The Men Of At Ease Ranch #3) by Donna Michaels

It's time to claim what's his...

THE RIGHT RANGER
The Men of At Ease Ranch #3
Donna Michaels
Releasing June 12, 2017
Entangled Lovestruck

Haley Wagner’s life just got a lot more complicated. As if turning her struggling ranch around isn’t tough enough, she’s forced to call him for help. With his hard eyes and even harder body, Cord is an irritatingly sexy contradiction of hot and cold. How can she possibly hide her embarrassing secret when just looking at Cord is a combustible event?

Former Army Ranger Cord Brannigan has a secret, too. He promised his fallen teammate he’d protect the tempting, fiercely independent Haley from a distance, but now they’re stuck together for three weeks. Alone. Keeping his hands off will take every ounce of control he can muster. And that control is slipping…

Excerpt:

As soon as he cut the engine outside the barn, he heard a large crash from inside followed by a slew of curses.
Haley.
With his gut knotted tight, he crossed the yard and entered on a sprint. “Haley…Jesus,” he muttered, finding her underneath a pegboard and a pile of tools. Sharp ones. Shit.
“Now you show up,” she scoffed.
He hoisted the peg board and tossed it aside. “What the hell happened?”
“Had a fight with a wall and lost.” A smirk twitched her full lips and gleamed in her whiskey gaze.
“That’s not funny.”
“Damn straight.” She frowned. “It hurts like a bitch.”
He ran a hand through his hair. “How the hell did you manage to knock this over?”
“Quite well, actually.”
Smartass.
He knelt beside her and leveled his gaze on her. “That’s not what I meant, and you know it.”
“Did I?” She tipped her chin and narrowed her eyes. “Hard to tell underneath all that accusation and condemnation dripping from your tone. I’m not one of your Rangers, Warlock. That hard stare of yours won’t work on me.”
Christ. He didn’t need this shit.
She made to get up, pushing a few tools out of the way, and that’s when he noticed the blood dripping down her arm.
“Stay still,” he ordered, grasping her unharmed arm to hold her steady. “Let me have a look.”
A quick inspection deemed it deep but not stitch-worthy, thank God. He yanked off his shirt and wrapped it around her arm, ignoring her gasp as he tied it tight until he could get her in the house for some proper first aid. But he didn’t want her moving until he examined the rest of her body for injuries.
With his training kicking in, he ran his hands over her, noting a small cut on her cheek, another on the back of her hand, and a bruise on her other wrist, no doubt from covering her face.
“You okay?” he asked, staring into her dazed eyes. “Are you hurt anywhere else?”
She blinked and focused her gaze on his face, then shook her head after she opened her mouth and nothing came out.
Christ.
His insides twisted when he took in the mash of clippers, hammers, screwdrivers, and pliers scattered around them. She was lucky. So damn lucky.
After helping her to her feet, he bent to scoop her in his arms.
“W-what are you doing?” She wiggled as he carried her across the yard, trying his damndest not to notice the soft curves brushing his chest.
“Taking you inside to fix your arm. Stay still.” Awareness already spread through his body, waking up parts that had no business enjoying the feel of his dead friend’s widow cradled against him.
Haley grunted. “I can walk.”
“Good to know,” he replied, but continued to hold her as he stepped onto the porch. “Get the door.”
With a loud sigh, she reached out and twisted the knob. “Okay, you can put me down now.”
“Where’s your first aid kit?” he asked, ignoring her protests.
She closed her mouth and stared at him, her eyes twin pools of pissed-off brown. God, she was gorgeous. And damn, he did not need to have his arms full of her hot curves.
He muttered an oath. “You can keep quiet all you want, but I’m just going to stand here and hold you until you tell me.”
Even if it killed him.

I Was Provided A ARC Through NetGalley
(Possible Spoilers)

Quite and stubborn, ex army ranger Cord Brannigan, just isn't himself lately, he has been caring around a lot of guilt the past couple of years, after the loss of one of the men on his team. And on top of that, he finds himself having to fight the explosive chemistry he feels towards the one woman he can't have. But that doesn't stop Cord from running to Haley Wagner's ranch, when she calls for help. The equally stubborn, sassy mouth woman, has held Cords interest for years, but as the wife of his fallen teammate, Cord knows he could never act on that attraction. But alone on her ranch, fixing up her land, and helping make her dream come true,  those feelings are harder to ignore and hide.

Haley knows she's in for a hard few weeks, sharing her home with the sexy, quite, Cord Brannigan. He man be a ass at times, but he dropped everything to help her, and as the days past, Haley finds herself having a hard time hiding the attraction she feels for Cord. But, Cord being her late husbands friend and former teammate, secrets from the past, lies, and the worry of a broken heart,  makes it complicated, to embrace the attraction the two share. Everyone around them knows that they are exactly what each other needs. Now if only they can let go and take that chance.

The men of At-Ease Ranch, and the spunky women who love them, their stories are must reads. The Right Ranger is for sure my favorite in the series. I just had so much love for the sexy alpha, Cord. And the sarcastic and sweet, Haley. They are both stubborn and independent holding onto a secret and filled with guilt, and longing for more, a fresh start. It is a beautiful, sweet, swoon-worthy, summer romance.

Tasty Q&A with Donna Michaels

Describe yourself in five words or less.

I love to entertain readers.

Name one thing you won’t leave home without.

My cellphone. Yep, I’m one of them. But only because I am usually waiting for an email or message from an author, publisher, editor…etc, and need to multitask my personal life errands into my day, too.

What types of scenes are your most favorite to write?

My favorite scenes to write are the sparring scenes between the hero and heroine. When the hero has met his match, or vice versa . There were several of those scenes in The Right Ranger.

Are there certain characters you would like to go back to, or is there a theme or idea you’d love to work with?

Yes, there are several characters I’d love to go back to, but shhh…don’t tell my other ones. The two that immediately come to mind are Kit Katt and Pierce DeVein from my humorous paranormal, The Spy Who Fanged Me. They are agents from different departments. She’s a black panther shifter and he’s a vampire and they’re forced to work together to bring down a dangerous gnome. Kit was by far the most fun I ever had writing a heroine. Between her can do attitude, her capabilities, and the fact she has catlike tendencies that get in the way at the most inopportune times, I would love to write another mission for her and her man/vampire. 😊

Can you tell us about your upcoming book?

Right now, I’m writing book 4 in The Men of At Ease Ranch series. This is Vince’s book. He’s been the easygoing happy guy throughout the series, and longs to have a relationship like his buddies have found. But, it’s like they say, be careful what you wish for. He’s discovering that his idea of the ideal significant other is flawed, relationships aren’t always easy, and they come when you least expect it. He is definitely one of my fun characters to write.

Excerpt
Above the low hum of the traffic, the people, and the planes passing overhead, a bell chimes. Then two, then three. Soon, surround-sound church bells, signaling the start of the new day, sweep over the breadth of my view.
“Wow.” The music becomes the backdrop of the city I thought I knew. My eyes follow the path of Market Street and the twinkling outline of the Bay Bridge. It scans to the Transamerica Building, which cuts the ombré of the night sky down to the yellow of the city lights. Sights now enhanced, brought to greater depth and meaning.
“Right?” he whispers next to me.
“Beautiful.”
“She is definitely beautiful.”
My breath hitches at Drew’s statement. He leans against the barrier, his back to the city lights. His eyes are solely on me.
This man and I know nothing about each other as adults except for what we revealed in the last hour. He knows nothing of my dreams and hopes. I don’t understand the life he’s chosen. And yet I’m bound to him with leftover feelings that are so innocent and pure, feelings I’m not sure where to place now that they’ve been pulled from memories packed away.
One thing is sure. Right now is perfect.
I approach him, place my hands on his chest.
He rests his fingers lightly on my waist. “Camille—”
I stop him with a kiss. Tonight has been crazy, magical, fuzzy, and weird, and I don’t want to think about consequences, my overloaded plate of responsibilities, of everything waiting for me down there, in the city below.

Book: NORTH TO YOU
Character Q & A

We grabbed Drew after his first date with Camille. Ten years have passed since he’s seen her and we wanted to know how he felt reuniting with an old love.

So, Drew, how did the date with Camille go?

Drew: It was…good.

Just good?

Drew: (grins dreamily) It was more than good. We had some delicious food, a nice talk…
(silence)

Ahem…

Drew: Oh, sorry. Was just thinking of that beautiful woman. I thought it was a successful first date, but she wasn’t exactly jumping at the next time we should see each other, you know? She didn’t get into the specifics, but it sounds like she’s got a ton of things going on, as I do. She wants to go slow, and I respect that.

Is this the right time for a relationship for you? Aren’t you back in town for a limited amount of time?

Drew: I’ve got less than a month before I have to deploy. Not nearly enough time with the amount of work I’ve been given by my pop. But whether I’ve got nothing to do, or if I work over time, I would be stupid to let this second chance go. This is Camille. She disappeared from my life once before, and I’m not letting her go without giving this little thing we have a try.

Speaking of…the choice to come home. Why now?

Drew: Ah…my pop. The reason why I’m here. To tell you the truth, I wouldn’t have moved back home at all if it wasn’t for him. But things have been tense for us for too long, and I couldn’t stand it. Life’s too short to allow the bad blood between us to fester. Though he busts my balls every chance he gets, I can’t deploy without us being straight. And part of me doing work at True North is getting into a space with him where we can talk about things.

What’s he got you doing back at the restaurant?

Drew: Everything.

Everything?

Drew: Everything. A whole gut job. Meaning I’m spending my last hurrah meeting contractors and pulling up floors and whatever my pop’s got planned. But as much as I sound like I’m whining, I’m glad for the work because it’s my chance to bring peace back home.

And seeing Camille—I can’t help but think that she’s part in parcel of this new chance.

Should Camille decide to go out with you again, what do you have planned?

Drew: (hands clasped behind his neck) She’s lived in San Francisco all her life, but I want to make this place all new for her. Make it different. Make it ours. So, I think we’re going to start with local tourist traps.

Before we end this interview, do you have any advice for people who don’t know whether they should risk that second chance?

Drew: Yeah, one thing. Find out where your True North points to, and if it’s to that second chance, run like hell after it.

Virtual Tour- The Way Back Home by Sarah Creech

A ferocious talent on the brink of making it big in Nashville
must confront her small town past and an old love she’s never forgotten

THE WHOLE WAY HOME
Sarah Creech
Releasing June 6th, 2017
William Morrow

A ferocious talent on the brink of making it big in Nashville must confront her small town past and an old love she’s never forgotten in this engaging novel—a soulful ballad filled with romance, heartbreak, secrets, and scandal from the author of Season of the Dragonflies.

Playing to packed houses while her hit song rushes up the charts, country singer and fiddler Jo Lover is poised to become a big Nashville star like her idols, Loretta, Reba, and Sheryl. To ensure her success, Jo has carefully crafted her image: a pretty, sassy, down-to-earth girl from small-town Virginia who pours her heart into her songs.

But the stage persona she’s built is threatened when her independent label merges with big-time Capitol Records, bringing Nashville heartthrob JD McCoy—her first love—back into her life. Long ago Jo played with JD’s band. Then something went wrong, they parted ways and took their own crooked roads to stardom. Now, Jo’s excited—and terrified—to see him again.

When the label reunites them for a show, the old sparks fly, the duet they sing goes viral, and fans begin clamoring for more—igniting the media’s interest in the compelling singer. Why is a small-town girl like Jo so quiet about her past? When did she and JD first meet? What split them apart? All too soon, the painful secret she's been hiding is uncovered; a shocking revelation that threatens to destroy her reputation and her dreams. To salvage her life and her career, Jo must finally face the past—and her feelings for JD—to become the true Nashville diva she was meant to be.

Excerpt
JD Gunn stood up from his wooden pew in the Ryman and joined the entire audience as they clapped and whistled for Jo to return to the stage for an encore. It felt good being on this side of the stage for once, just another audience member looking up with awe at a stellar performer. Nashville’s finest musicians, critics, and business folks gathered in these pews to witness her performance, alongside some of the most devoted fans he’d ever seen. JD’s ears were ringing from all the screams unleashed for her.
He and the band cut their Northeast tour short a day to come to the Ryman for Jo’s induction into the Grand Old Opry family. He and his band had been members for five years and he tried to make it to every new induction. Now he was second-guessing that decision. He figured enough time had passed between them that his presence here wouldn’t bother her, that maybe she would’ve expected to see him and be happy about it. But there was something about the way she looked at him, like there was a glitch in her system. And Jo Lover, who was master of her instruments, one of the finest musicians he’d ever known, messed up that easy Loretta number.
JD put his fingers in his mouth and let out a cattle whistle. His bass player Rob stood next to him and shouted Jo’s name over and over. Rob wore the same black and white Willie and Waylon outlaw t-shirt he’d owned since middle school. JD was an only child and Rob was the closest to a brother that JD had. JD and Rob snuck out the house and hitched a ride away from Gate City to attend that Willie and Waylon show together. Rob waited in line for almost an hour to have his shirt signed. When it was finally his turn and he had the chance to talk to Willie, he almost didn’t speak, just stood there adjusting his thick glasses. JD shoved him and Rob finally said, “You guys are so cool” and Willie said, “So are you, kid.” Rob talked about it for months. Still brought it up when they got drunk. All they wanted back then was to be those guys. Swore they’d grow up to be outlaws and not ruin their bodies at the quarry like their fathers had. They swore they’d find something better to do with their hands.

Tasty Q&A with Sarah Creech

  1. What did you enjoy most about writing this book?
The research process! I explored the history of country music through the wonderful scholarly texts of Bill C. Malone and I drew so much inspiration from tales of Opry romances and curses, friendships and heartbreaks. Country music is the most neglected of all music styles in scholarly work due to its complicated regional history, but it’s far and away the best narrative music genre. I’m grateful for Malone, who dedicated his scholarly career to studying the roots of country music and beyond. Through Malone and other important writers, I discovered the romantic relationships between Martina McBride and her producer husband and George Jones and Tammy Wynette. Those romantic/working relationships have long fascinated me since I’m in a marriage with another artist.

I also researched the on stage duet relationships between superstars like Dolly Parton and Porter Wagoner and all the complications that arise when a romantic link is missing. I had the pleasure of being granted access to the Frist Library in the Country Hal of Fame in Nashville, TN, where I listened to the earliest recordings of the Grand Ole Opry, found the first draft of Waylon Jennings’s autobiography, which I promptly read it from start to finish, and explored all the microfiche a writer could want about the country music industry. I’m fascinated by independent labels like Big Machine (Taylor Swift’s label) headed by Scott Borchetta and 3rd Man Records headed by Jack White and how they operate in a town where multi-national corporations hold most of the power. I read through many newspaper clippings and explored the trajectory of the country music industry from the 60s to current day and all the disruptions along the way like rock music, the Vietnam War, and the rise of pirating technology.

On one of my last days at the Frist Library, Jack White and his entourage walked into the room where I was the only person granted access on that day. He’s much taller in person and extremely charismatic. His energy animated the inanimate objects in the room. He told me I was pretty. And I thought, the nerve of that guy! He said that to me because he’s Jack White, because he could. Still, for a full hour I was deeply distracted. A few weeks later I found out he was there to pick up one of the earliest known recordings of Elvis. A friend of Elvis’s from before he was famous found the record in his closet, and Jack White had it digitally re-mastered at the Frist Library. And I happened to be there when it was all finished. Meeting Jack White and researching in Nashville became a turning point for the novel. The night before I was set to head home from this research trip, I had a dream that I’d forgotten my current manuscript on an elevator that would never come back down to me. I knew my dream was telling me to start over, to make it bigger, to try and capture all the light, charm, and magnitude of Jack White’s presence and Nashville at large.

Beyond book research, I found myself drinking lots of whiskey with great musicians who generously gave me just enough access to their lives to inspire the characters in this book. Chance McCoy of Old Crow Medicine Show and J.P. Harris of J.P. Harris and the Tough Choices were so open and helpful that I’ll never be able to thank them fully.

  1. If you could trade places with anyone for just one day, who would you be?
Dolly Parton

  1. A la Twitter style, please describe your book in 140 characters or less.
About the rising Queen of Country and the Top 40 superstar she used to love.

4.      Where did the inspiration for this book come from?

A few years ago I was sitting at a local honkytonk joint called the Thirsty Beaver here in Charlotte, NC, where I live. This is an iconic bar in Charlotte, and proudly sells the most Jim Beam in the entire state. The bar is run by two fabulous brothers who created the idea for this place before the Plaza Midwood neighborhood was as cool and in demand as it is now. They had no idea if anyone would come to a bar playing Hank Williams, not Blake Shelton. There’s a velvet Kenny Rogers poster on the storage room door and a Charlie Pride hologram on the wall. (I tried to capture the charm of this place in my novel. The Thirsty Baboon is an homage to this place.)

So I was sitting on a barstool at the Thirsty Beaver, drinking a whiskey neat, and waiting for J.P. Harris and The Tough Choices to start playing. I’d seen J.P. play once before in Galax, Virginia, on a snowy evening where couples came out for a two step. He promised me his show at the Thirsty Beaver would be a lot more raucous. And he was right, of course. I remember sitting on that bar stool, watching him perform with his sleeves of tattoos on display and his big black beard grown out before all the hipsters were doing it and I remember his passion for the roots of country music, for playing covers by the greats like Merle Haggard and Hank Williams. This rebellious musician and all his respect and passion for the tradition really struck me. I thought, What if I guy like this could become really famous in Nashville? And that question sparked the beginning of The Whole Way Home. The book doesn’t follow the exact trajectory of that question, but I’m glad to report that J.P. Harris is well on his way to turning that what if into reality. Now he’s so busy touring that the guys at the Thirsty Beaver can’t book him anymore! We’re all proud of him.

5.      How long have you been writing, and what (or who) inspired you to start?

I wrote and illustrated my first book of poems in the 4th grade and my first novel in the sixth grade, and I’ve been writing ever since. My mother was a voracious reader. I have many memories of walking into her bedroom in the evenings and on the weekends to find her reading paperbacks in bed with many more scattered on the floor. She was a single, hard-working mom of four girls with no help from my father. I knew how stressed and difficult her life was and I remember drawing the conclusion that books gave her comfort, peace, just like reading Roald Dahl, Shel Silverstein, and Amelia Bedelia did for me. Books were magical, and I wanted to participate as a creator.

  1. Do you have any advice to give to aspiring writers?
Treat the first ten years like an apprenticeship. Be impatient for success and patient with your failures. Don’t quit.

  1. Is there anything that you would like to say to your readers and fans?
Thank you so much for reading on all formats, for building community through books, and for keeping word of mouth promotion alive and well. Without you, writers work in a silo.
