He took me in when I had nowhere else to go.
He doesn’t use me, hurt me, or forget about me. He doesn’t treat me like I’m nothing, take me for granted, or make me feel unsafe.
He remembers me, laughs with me, and looks at me. He listens to me, protects me, and sees me. I can feel his eyes on me over the breakfast table, and my heart pumps so hard when I hear him pull in the driveway after work.
I have to stop this. It can’t happen.
My sister once told me there are no good men, and if you find one, he’s probably unavailable.
Only Pike Lawson isn’t the unavailable one.
I am.
I took her in, because I thought I was helping.
She’d cook a few meals and clean up a little. It was an easy arrangement.
As the days go by, though, it’s becoming anything but easy. I have to stop my mind from drifting to her and stop holding my breath every time I bump into her in the house. I can’t touch her, and I shouldn’t want to.
The more I find my path crossing hers, though, the more she’s becoming a part of me.
But we’re not free to give into this. She’s nineteen, and I’m thirty-eight.
And her boyfriend’s father.
Unfortunately, they both just moved into my house.

Hot Summer Nights Indeed!
I can never get enough of Penelope Douglas's books. I will get lost between the pages of and become consumed by her words, the characters and everything that makes the story. And that's what happened with Birthday Girl. I wanted to read more and more about Pike & Jordan. I was still thinking about them long after the story was over. Birthday Girl is defiantly one of my favorite reads this year!
From start to finish Jordan Hadley & Pike Lawson captivated me. I was drawn into this book and never wanted to leave. The age gape, the taboo of their relationship, all the 80's love mixed in. All the angst, passion, banter, and umm hello SO Much sexiness. I could not turn the pages fast enough. The intense chemistry Jordan and Pike share makes for a book you do not want to miss out on.
Its wrong for Jordan and Pike to want this, the way they feel for each other is forbidden. Not only is Pike her boyfriends dad, but the age difference would be talked about, looked down on. But Pike and Jordan can't stop what was slowing building between them from the first moment they met. They both deserved happiness and a shot at more. But they have to find a way to make it work. Without losing each other or others in the process.
Jordan, even at her age knows what she wants, what she deserves. She has been working hard to make a life for herself, to achieve all of her dreams. She's felt alone for a long time, always forgotten. But with Pike, this older man, who has a steady life, a hard worker, she knows he sees her. Her fears, wants, desires, doubts, all the little things that matter.
Pike is conflicted, he wants to look out for and protect those he cares for. He knows he has to be willing to put his wants aside to save those close to him from getting hurt. But Jordan. She has awaken something in him. Breathed some life back into him. He has faced struggles and doubts for what he wanted in his life. And when Jordan is around, she makes him feel like a better version of himself, makes him remember all the things in wanted in life.
Jordan is a feisty and fun character. I really loved her ups and downs, and how sure of herself she was. No matter the struggle or doubts, she was willing to fight for more. And Pike, oh man, Pike was so sweet and sexy. A real alpha male. He was kinda going through the motions in his life, and it was great to see him open up and want more when with Jordan.
I can't express how much I LOVED Pike and Jordan. The connection the two have is so damn epic to read. From the innocent charm of there first encounter, to growing feels being tested, hidden and denied, to the secret forbidden moments of their relationship, and all that comes after.
Birthday Girl is a book you NEED to read! Like Now!
