Book Review- Enchant by Micalea Smeltzer

Mara Pryce never imagined that her life was anything but normal and then a strange gray-eyed young man appears at her graduation. When he vanishes without a trace, she’s convinced he’s a figment of her imagination. Then he appears again and shatters her whole world.

Mara is an enchanter, part of an ancient line of Wiccan power, and a war is raging—one of good and evil—between the Enchanted and the Iniquitous.

The Iniquitous want her dead and it’s Theodore’s job as her protector to keep her safe.

When Mara and Theodore arrive at a safe house, where Mara will remain hidden while learning about her powers, they find that the real threat might be a little closer to home than they want to believe.

My Review
3.5

Mare Pryce's world is turned upside down when she's whisked from her home and finding herself fleeing to safety, from a world she didn't even know existed until moments before. The most Mara hand to worry about was getting through her graduation, starting community college and what her best friend was going to make her where to the graduation party. But now she finds herself running, with a stranger, a scruffy, cocky super annoying but oh so hot stranger. One who calls himself her Protector, and thrust her into a world of magic, long ago battles and knowledge of who she really is and who she'll become.

Mara has discovered she is an Enchanter, a Witch, one of The Chosen Ones, and with her fast approaching birthday, she will soon come into powers and really be a part of this world, one that she is trying to learn about. Her life is forever changed, and the only thing that makes her feel safe, is Theodore, her Protector. Mare knows she shouldn't feel this way about Theo, he's older, he gets under her skin, his cockiness and his mouth, makes her want to punch him, and he's tasked to keep her alive at all cost. So any romantic notions need to be pushed aside.

Magic, fantasy, and forbidden love. Enchant is a quick paced, fantasy with great characters, who through out the book, are intrigued by more and more. Mare at times frustrated me, she couldn't seem to reach for what she really wanted and hid behind a safer choice, but you have to get into her head and understand she was thrust into a world of craziness, she's young, and had to learn, to grow. Mara stands up, and really starts to embraces who she is becoming. Theo was hands down my favorite character in this book. He was so fun. Super cocky, angry, and always with a witty or sarcastic comment. Theo hides a lot of pain and guilt, and is given a huge responsibility, one he takes extremely serious. He puts whats right, his duty, before all else, even his own feelings.

Action, choices, love, magic and fantasy, make Enchant a great read. One, where the ending made we want to bawl like a baby and throw my kindle. But I look forward to seeing where the story and the characters take us next.

About the Author:

Hi. I’m Micalea. Ma-call-e-uh. Weird name, I know. My mom must’ve known I was going to be odd even in the womb. I’ve written a lot of books. Like a lot. Don’t ask me how many, I don’t remember at this point. I have an unhealthy addiction to Diet Coke but I can’t seem to break the habit. I listen to way too much music and hedgehogs have taken over my life. Crazy is the word that best sums up my life, but it’s the good kind of crazy and I wouldn’t change it for anything.
