All that eighteen old Melanie Cannon wants, hopes for, is to escape town, and head off to college in Chicago. She had it all lied up, she was ready to leave behind her run down town, the memories of her farther, and her alcoholic mother. But that all goes crashing down when her best friends drugs are found in her locker. Now Melanie is facing her fear of a future being stuck. Her dreams of college seem to be slipping further away. Melanie feels like she is slowly spiraling out of control. The one bright spot in the mess that seems to be Melanie's life, is the new guy in town, Jake Beck.
Detective Jake Beck is everything Melanie feel's she needs to feel alive through all this mess. He shows her that she is worth so much more than she believes. Jake wants her to believe in herself and wants to show her she can make it out of this awful town and have a happy life. But how can they have a chance together when their is so much stacked against them. He's older, a cop, she's trying to hold on and make it through the last months of high school. Can they make a relationship, one that they have to hide, work? Or will doubts and worries halt their relationship before they can even have a real chance at making it work.
A beautiful, captivating, sexy love story. Melanie and Jake's taboo relationship is very well written. It was intriguing, fun, and scorching hot. I really enjoyed the story of this young women desperately reaching for her future, and a lost man running from his past. Maria Monroe is a author I'm very happy I discovered and I look forward to reading lots more of her stories.
