New Release & Book Review- Bend by Kivrin Wils

About the book:

MIA

Jay Bradshaw. My boyfriend’s best friend.

He was never supposed to be anything more—until he was.

When my college boyfriend betrayed me and left, breaking my heart, Jay picked a side. He chose me. He stayed, and for the past six years, he’s been my rock, my anchor, my compass…

Now we’ve grown up, finished school, and have careers. Me as a nurse practitioner; Jay as a doctor. He’s been everything I needed, but now I want more. I can’t stop thinking about him, and I’m done hiding it.

It’s time to find out if he wants me, too.

JAY

A friend. Not a lover. That’s who Mia Waters is to me.

I’ve tried damn hard to make sure our relationship stays that way. I’m the shoulder she leans on, the last one to talk to her before she goes to sleep at night… And after six years, she means more to me than my own family.

The moment I met her, I wanted her. But she belonged to someone else, so I pushed the need down. I didn’t take what I wanted. I’m not that guy. Her happiness meant more.

Until now. Until she asks me a question that shatters our unspoken boundaries. Have you ever thought about having sex with me? Six years of keeping her at arm’s length, and I can feel myself starting to give in and lose control with her.

I can’t let it happen. There are reasons I didn’t get close. She hasn’t let go of her ex-boyfriend, not really. And she has no idea about the lies I’ve told her.

What if she finds out about me? What if she finds out who I really am?

And what will she do when I leave?

My Review
3.5 Stars
I Was Provided A ARC By The Author
(Possible Spoilers)

Mia & Jay best friends for years, are comfortable in their friendship. Its easy. They both work long hours, her a nurse, him going through his residency in the ER. Its good for them to spend time together, unwind and relax. But Mia might have just put a kink in that when she confess to Jay how she's felt for him over the years. And offers him a friends with benefits relationship.

Mia doesn't want to regret not knowing what being with Jay would be like. If it would prove that her feelings are more than just lust for her best friend. Jay is hesitant, angry even that Mia would bring this up and potentially ruin their friendship. He has kept a lot of people at a distant, including Mia. She doesn't know about his family, his past. And he doesn't want to admit to himself or to her how he's felt over the years, cause that would be letting someone in. And he wont do that. They will have to navigate around this new turn in their friendship. They'll enjoy one another, but no feelings can get in the way, and change things even more.

While Bend was a good story, I couldn't seem to connect with it completely, mainly because of Jay. I felt at times he was mean or to standoffish to Mia and in general. I understand he has a past he wants to forget and to hide from Mia. But at times I felt like he was to quick to snap or belittle Mia. I just couldn't seem to enjoy his character. I liked Mia, shes was a good character, she has a strong presence, she goes after what she wants, but I wasn't a fan of how quick she was to apologize when Jay didn't like what she had to say.

Even though I personally had a hard time connecting with the characters, they were still intriguing. The author pulls you in and makes you want to understand them and dig deeper into who they are. She tells a very vivid story, and for a debut novel, she did a great job. I would recommend others give Mia & Jay's book a try. Friends to lovers books are always fun to read.
